[China] 1,000kg of emergency medical supplies to medical institutions in China to stop the Coronavirus outbreak
In response to the spread of the new coronavirus infection in China, ARROWS, a flying medical emergency response group, transported approximately 1,000 kg of medical relief supplies to China on the 5th of February. One ARROWS staff member was in charge of transporting goods from Saga Airport to Shanghai Airport using Spring Airlines, and supplies were delivered to the Public Health Clinical Center in Shanghai on the 6th.
The emergency supplies provided amounted to 124 boxes weighing around 1000 kg and included supplies necessary for controlling an outbreak. This included items such as protective clothing, medical masks, boots, gloves, bandages, blood collection kits and sterile pipettes, etc. These supplies will be used to test for and examine infected patients as well as for medical professionals working on developing a vaccine through blood tests. The medical equipment includes supplies that the Asia Pacific Alliance (A-PAD), a member of ARROWS, had stockpiled in the Saga Airport warehouse with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It also includes 580 sets of infectious disease control kits (Includes items such as protective clothing, masks, goggles, gloves, and foot covers etc.) donated by the Tara Hospital in Saga Prefecture.
Doctors at the Public Health Clinical Center, which provided supplies, also have a history of developing vaccines and treating patients during the last outbreak of the bird flu in China. To prevent the spread of the new coronavirus infection, they are also currently working to find an effective vaccine and are testing drugs used to treat HIV that show promise of being effective against the coronavirus.
In order to transport the supplies, it became possible to exempt excess charges with the cooperation of Spring Airlines, and with the cooperation of the International Health Welfare Organization (IHWI), we were able to smoothly deliver the supplies to the affected areas in China.
