[Bangladesh]Severe Damage from Heavy Rainfall in Rohingya Refugee Camps in South-eastern Bangladesh

Bangladesh has now entered its monsoon season. In Cox’s Bazar, where Peace Winds operates, torrential rains have been falling since around May 28, 2025.

There have also been frequent thunderstorms, and landslides and flooding caused widespread damage over the past weekend. There has been numerous casualties due to lightning strikes.

As of May 30, 2025, a total of 103 incidents related to rain have been reported in the Rohingya refugee camps, affecting approximately 4,970 people (1,055 households).

At the clinic in Camp 14, where we provide support, temporary power and water outages were experienced, but these have since been resolved and medical services have resumed as normal. Meanwhile, many of the shelters belonging to the community volunteers working alongside us in the camps have been severely damaged.

Fortunately, all of the community volunteers affected by the disaster are safe.
However, their shelters were destroyed, particularly due to landslides.

Going forward, we will continue to coordinate with camp management, relevant agencies, local authorities, and UN agencies to assess the damage and needs, and we will consider whether to provide support for those affected by the heavy rainfall.

We sincerely appreciate your continued warm support.
