[Tibet] – The Critical 72-Hour Window – Search and Rescue Operations Begin

The rescue team from the Ram Union, a partner organization of Peace Winds, arrived in Shigatse, a severely affected city, at 9:45 PM Japan time on January 8, 2025, and began their relief efforts.

Amid the looming critical 72-hour window, search and rescue operations have commenced

In the extreme cold of minus 17 degrees, more than 3,600 buildings collapsed, causing devastating damage. With the 72-hour limit looming, rescue teams carried out search and rescue operations.

They also distributed the relief supplies they had procured (blankets, winter coats, heaters, etc.) After delivering the supplies to the community center, they rushed to the victims who were taking shelter in tents.

Upon the arrival of the rescue team, the survivors tearfully expressed their gratitude, saying, “Thank you. Truly, thank you.” Witnessing this, the team deeply felt the severity of the situation.

The rescue team gently spoke to the survivors, saying, “This disaster will eventually end. Let’s endure until then.” “Please try to rest as much as you can today. We’ll contact you again in a few days, so don’t worry. You’ll be fine.” They offered blankets, warm coats, and heating devices to help warm their cold bodies and informed them to use the relief supplies placed at the community center if they needed anything.

Your support is essential for the affected individuals to regain a sense of security as quickly as possible. We sincerely appreciate your continued warm support.
