[Myanamar] Emergency Relief : 1 Month After the Earthquake – Timeline

It has been one month since the Myanmar Earthquake. Peace Winds Japan has been stationed in Myanmar for approximately 2 weeks, and  an emergency relief team composed of doctors and nurses has established a temporary clinic to carry out support activities. Through our partner organizations, we plan to continue providing support to the affected areas.

March 28th, 2025 – The Outbreak of the Earthquake – Gathering Intel

On March 28th, 2025 at 3:20 PM (local time), the central area of Myanmar – Mandalay was subject to a large-scale earthquake. PeaceWinds Japan immediately began gathering information after the outbreak of the disaster, and decided to start emergency support activities.

March 31st, 2025 – An Emergency relief team of Doctors and Nurses was formed

PeaceWinds decided to send an emergency relief team composed of Doctors, Nurses, and co-ordinators from Japan. (Details can be found here)

 

April 3rd, 2025 – Peace Winds Japanese staff entered Yangon

PeaceWinds local Myanmar staff first entered Yangon, and began coordination activities. At the same time, the emergency response team from Japan had their activity permits advanced through the neighbouring country of Thailand. (Details found here)
 

April 4th, 2025 – Entry into Myanmar, Heading towards the Disaster Zone

From March 31st PeaceWinds emergency response team continued preparation activities in Bangkok, Thailand, . After 3 days of negotiations with the relevant authorities, and going through official procedures, permission to carry out support activities was granted on the night of April 3rd. On the morning of April 4th, the team entered Myanmar.
 

April 5th, 2025 – Arriving in the Disaster Zone, Heat Surpassing 40C

After entering Mynamar on April 4th, the team moved from Yangon to the city of Taungoo, and moved from Taungoo to the capital city of Nepido on April 5th. In Nepido,the team gathered the essential support resources of water, solar lanterns, water tanks, masks, disinfectant, medical gloves and the like, and proceeded to the disaster zone of Mandalay, 280km away. April 5th-16th , 2025 – Carrying out Activities at the Mobile Clinic near the Epicenter

As a result of our discussions  with local medical professionals, we were able to establish a temporary medical clinic. We were able to carry out medical treatment in the local area for a period of 10 days.

April 28th, 2025 – 1 Month after the Disaster – Carrying out a Press Conference

Dr.Inaba, who carried out on-site medical treatment, and Rika Yamamoto, Director of Overseas Operations, spoke at the `Myanmar Earthquake – Activity Report Press Conference` and spoke on PeaceWinds activities in Myanmar. From here on, we are making preparations to carry out medium-term support activities with shelter and materials, in order to continue supporting the affected areas.
