In Afghanistan, many civilians have been killed or forced to flee their homes due to years of conflict and terrorism. Afghanistan has also been hit by a series of large-scale natural disasters, including frequent droughts and floods, and both the society and the people have become exhausted. In particular, since the establishment of the interim government by the Taliban in 2021, the economic situation has worsened further due to economic sanctions imposed by the international community, as well as a decrease in aid from various countries to international organizations, resulting in a worsening food shortage.

In order to sustain life and strengthen resilience by improving access to food for vulnerable households in need, Peace Winds will provide those vulnerable households not only cash for food assistance but also poultry rearing support with the aim of building a system for continuous food production in the community. Poultry rearing is one of the livelihood activities that have been familiar to the people in Afghanistan for many years and can be easily managed by people, including women, because it can be done mainly within their own premises.

Local partner organization staff, who themselves have experience of poultry rearing at home, received training by local poultry rearing experts. The staff who received the training will provide poultry rearing skills training to target households under the supervision of the expert.

Peace Winds is currently working with a local partner organization to prepare for the provision of cash to target households as well as for the implementation of poultry rearing skills training to be taken by the same households. We would like to ask for your continued warm support.

This project is funded by grants from Japan Platform and generous donations from our supporters. Thank you for your continuing support.
