[Japan] Ofunato Wildfire: Emergency Support Team Dispatched – Fundraising for Emergency Support Now Open
On February 26, following the wildfire in Ofunato City, Iwate Prefecture, Peace Winds’ “Flying Search Medical Team” ARROWS was dispatched to the affected area.
As of now, two days after the fire started, the wildfire is still spreading, with large areas of Akasaki Town, Aoshima District, and Sanriku Town being burned, covering approximately 1,200 hectares. One person has lost their life, and Ofunato City has issued evacuation orders for 1,340 households, affecting 3,306 people.
Once the team arrives, they will assess the situation, listen to local needs, and investigate what is truly required, ensuring that the necessary support is provided.

Peace Winds has been actively involved in the coastal areas of Iwate Prefecture, which suffered significant damage during the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake.
