(Japan) Hokkaido earthquake – Search and Rescue operation began
On September 5, a powerful 6.7-magnitude earthquake struck the island of Hokkaido in northern Japan, triggered massive landslides, island-wide power outages, and damaged roads extensively.
A Search and Rescue (SAR) and medical team, was immediately formed by Peace Winds Japan (PWJ) and its partners A-PAD and Civic Force, and the team arrived near the landslide-affected area, Atsuma district, where the team has begun SAR operation.
The earthquake happened only a day after Typhoon Jebi passed the area, the typhoon caused destruction throughout in Kansai region, western Japan.
