[Middle East Crisis: Emergency Response] One million people have been displaced across Lebanon. We need your support to ensure no one is left behind.
The intense Israeli airstrikes and ground operations against Lebanon, which have been ongoing since March 3, 2026, show no signs of abating, and the situation in Lebanon continues to deteriorate, with an increasing number of internally displaced people and rising casualties. Attacks targeting apartment buildings and vehicles are reported almost daily; many of these occur in residential areas, causing harm to civilians, including medical personnel, and heightening fear and psychological and social distress among the population.
Against this backdrop, on March 17, 2026, Peace Winds spoke with staff members of a local organization with which it is partnering to provide emergency aid to the displaced people to hear about the situation on the ground.
“According to the latest statistics from the Lebanese government, the number of internally displaced people has reached 1,049,328, of whom 132,742 are staying in shelters. As the number of displaced people continues to rise, new arrivals are struggling to find a place to stay. While local authorities are working to open new reception centers, only 12% of displaced people have been accommodated in shelters. Those unable to enter shelters are forced to rent shared housing when possible, or to live in informal collective settlements that lack basic services and privacy. Last weekend, a severe storm struck, and people living in tents on the streets and in public spaces suffered from flooding everywhere. Humanitarian workers are working tirelessly to respond, but due to the sheer scale of the displacement, supplies and funding are running low. While some of the immediate needs, such as daily necessities, food, and water, are being met, shortages persist, particularly in newly affected areas. Currently, the most urgent needs include medical and psychosocial support, as well as securing shelters, mattresses and bedding, hygiene kits, and continued access to food and safe drinking water.”
While the media tends to focus on oil prices, stock markets, and political issues, the people affected are those who have had their “ordinary lives” taken away from them. Please help us deliver the “actions you can take right now” to those in need on the ground.
Peace Winds will continue to provide support to those displaced. We sincerely appreciate your generous support.
